Microclimate
The climatic conditions here are comparable to those of Alpine resorts. Frequent winds and the terrain’s shape lead to rapid air mass exchange. The peat bogs of the Izera Mountains contribute to the area’s distinctive microclimate.
Szklarska Poręba is the largest winter sports resort in the Polish Sudetes. Its main advantage as a winter sports hub is the long-lasting snow cover – on average for 110 days each year – which makes it a true paradise for lovers of winter fun.
Winter sports
The town and its surroundings are an ideal center for winter sports.
Szklarska Poręba, together with the Szrenica massif, is the downhill skiing center of the Western Karkonosze. In our town, you can enjoy ski slopes and lifts of various lengths and levels of difficulty.
In the Izera Mountains, particularly in the Jakuszyce area, cross-country skiing dominates. Szklarska Poręba offers the best cross-country and ski touring trails in Central Europe, with over 150 km of tracks stretching across the Izera massif.
Mountain climbing
The Karkonosze and Izera Mountains are a truly scenic rock-climbing hotspot.
The most popular and tallest climbing rocks are the Krucze Skały (Raven Rocks). Mountain climbing attractions are accessible to everyone, including those with little experience. Safety is overseen by professional instructors. Szklarska Poręba also offers places where you can take climbing lessons.
Hiking trails
With more than 100 km of hiking trails around Szklarska Poręba, there is plenty to attract hiking enthusiasts.
Beautiful, picturesque routes within the Karkonosze National Park and the Izera Mountains make it possible to enjoy both gentle walks and more demanding treks. The charm of these hikes is enhanced by the unique mountain scenery, which changes with the seasons, the time of day, and the light.
